Certification-based tech education platform Newton School is preparing to raise fresh funding from Prateek Boob, the co-founder of PhysicsWallah. The investment will be part of an extension to the company’s Series B funding round.
The new investment marks a significant development for the Gurugram-based edtech company, especially since its last major funding round took place nearly four years ago.
According to regulatory filings reviewed by Entrackr, Newton School’s board has approved a special resolution to issue 72,738 Series B1 preference shares at an issue price of Rs 3,437 per share. Through this move, the company is expected to raise around Rs 25 crore in fresh capital.
Newton School’s Valuation Reaches Over Rs 1,000 Crore
Based on estimates from Entrackr, the new investment values Newton School at approximately Rs 1,055 crore, or about $117 million.
Once the investment is completed and the shares are allotted, Prateek Boob will hold roughly a 2.37 percent stake in the company.
This funding round signals continued investor confidence in the company’s approach to tech education and its vision of building a modern alternative to traditional universities.
What Newton School Does
Newton School was founded with the idea of creating a “neo-university” focused on practical, industry-driven education.
Instead of following traditional academic models, the platform emphasizes real-world technical training and job-ready skills. The goal is to prepare students for careers in the technology sector through hands-on learning.
The company offers a range of industry-led programs designed to bridge the gap between education and employment in the tech industry.
One of its flagship offerings is a global B.Tech program in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. The course focuses on practical coding skills, project-based learning, and exposure to real-world industry challenges.
Through this model, Newton School aims to help students become job-ready engineers who can quickly adapt to the needs of modern tech companies.
Why Certification-Based Tech Education Is Growing
The demand for practical technology skills has increased rapidly in recent years.
Many companies today prioritize real-world technical abilities over traditional academic credentials. As a result, certification-based and industry-led education platforms are gaining popularity among students looking for faster and more practical career paths.
Platforms like Newton School are tapping into this shift by offering programs that focus on employability rather than theoretical learning.
Students typically learn through coding projects, problem-solving challenges, and collaboration with industry professionals. This hands-on approach is designed to make graduates ready for jobs in software development, artificial intelligence, and other technology roles.
The Significance of Prateek Boob’s Investment
Prateek Boob’s involvement in this funding round adds strategic value to Newton School.
As the co-founder of PhysicsWallah, Boob has played a key role in building one of India’s most successful edtech platforms. PhysicsWallah started as a YouTube-based learning initiative and eventually grew into a large edtech company offering courses for competitive exams and academic preparation.
His investment in Newton School suggests confidence in the growing demand for industry-focused tech education.
It also reflects a broader trend in India’s edtech ecosystem, where entrepreneurs and investors are increasingly backing platforms that focus on career-oriented learning.
A Long Gap Between Funding Rounds
One interesting aspect of this development is the timing.
Newton School’s new funding comes after nearly four years since its last major round. For a startup, such a long gap between funding rounds can often indicate a period of consolidation, growth, or strategic repositioning.
During this time, many edtech companies have had to adjust their strategies due to changing market conditions, shifts in student demand, and increased competition.
The fresh funding could help Newton School accelerate its next phase of growth and strengthen its position in the tech education sector.
How the New Capital Could Be Used
While the company has not publicly disclosed detailed plans for the funds, startups in this sector typically use fresh capital for several key areas.
These may include expanding course offerings, improving the learning platform, hiring instructors and industry experts, and scaling student acquisition efforts.
The funding could also help Newton School build stronger partnerships with technology companies for placements and internships.
Expanding its neo-university model and reaching more students across India may also be part of the company’s broader growth strategy.
The Future of Tech Education Platforms in India
India’s technology sector continues to grow rapidly, creating a strong demand for skilled engineers and software developers.
However, traditional university education often struggles to keep up with the pace of technological change. This gap has created opportunities for alternative education models that focus on practical skills and industry readiness.
Platforms like Newton School aim to fill that gap by offering modern learning programs designed around real industry needs.
With backing from experienced entrepreneurs like Prateek Boob and a valuation crossing Rs 1,000 crore, Newton School appears to be positioning itself as a key player in the evolving tech education ecosystem.
As the demand for job-ready tech talent continues to rise, certification-based learning platforms could play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of education in India.
