Role and Contributions
Driving Ola Electric’s Cell Manufacturing Capabilities
Chaturvedi joined Ola Electric in 2022 and oversaw the company’s cell division, a critical component of its vertical integration strategy. The division is central to Ola Electric’s efforts to reduce costs, improve margins, and scale in-house battery technology.
Under his leadership, the company advanced the production and deployment of its 4680 Bharat Cell, used in select scooter and motorcycle models. The cell is a key pillar of Ola Electric’s strategy to manufacture batteries domestically and strengthen its technology independence.
Key Milestones During Tenure
Certification and Government Support
Recently, Ola Electric received government certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) norms for its Roadster X+ electric motorcycle, powered by the 4680 Bharat Cell. The certification paves the way for deliveries and wider adoption of the in-house cell technology.
The company has also benefited from government incentives tied to localisation and manufacturing initiatives. For the financial year ending March 2025, Ola Electric secured Rs 366.78 crore under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for automobiles and auto components, supporting its expansion in domestic battery manufacturing.
Strategic Importance of the Cell Division
The cell division plays a vital role in Ola Electric’s long-term strategy, helping the company achieve cost efficiency, technological independence, and competitive margins. With the EV market in India rapidly expanding, the business head for cell operations is a key position, as in-house battery production is a differentiator in the highly competitive electric two-wheeler segment.
Chaturvedi’s resignation comes at a crucial time as Ola Electric ramps up production and deliveries, and the company is expected to announce a replacement to ensure continuity in its battery manufacturing strategy.
Looking Ahead
Ola Electric continues to strengthen its vertical integration strategy and expand its domestic manufacturing capabilities. While Chaturvedi’s departure marks a leadership change in a critical division, the company remains focused on rolling out the 4680 Bharat Cell, scaling deliveries, and leveraging government incentives to expand its presence in the Indian EV market.
