Blinkit chief financial officer Vipin Kapooria has reportedly resigned from his role, around 16 months after joining the quick-commerce company. The development comes at a sensitive time for the firm, as it faces nationwide protests by delivery partners, according to a PTI report.
Kapooria’s exit marks another senior leadership change at Blinkit, which operates under Zomato’s parent entity Eternal.
Short but Key Tenure at Blinkit
Vipin Kapooria joined Blinkit in September last year, taking on the role of CFO at a crucial phase of the company’s growth and integration.
He was the first full-time CFO at Blinkit in nearly two years. The position had remained vacant since Amit Sachdeva, the company’s previous CFO, exited in 2022 following Blinkit’s acquisition by Zomato, which has since been rebranded as Eternal.
During his tenure, Kapooria worked closely with Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa and Eternal CFO Akshant Goyal, focusing on financial strategy, cost controls, and operational scaling in the highly competitive quick-commerce segment.
Kapooria’s Professional Background
Kapooria brought extensive experience in finance and operations to Blinkit.
He began his career at Flipkart in 2015, where he spent several years before leaving in 2018 to join hospitality major OYO. At OYO, he served as vice president for business finance, overseeing key financial functions during a period of rapid expansion.
In 2020, Kapooria returned to Flipkart before eventually moving to Blinkit in 2024. His appointment was seen as a stabilizing move for Blinkit’s finance leadership following its acquisition.
Exit Coincides With Delivery Partner Protests
Kapooria’s resignation comes amid reports of nationwide protests by Blinkit delivery partners, who have raised concerns over pay structures and working conditions.
While there is no official confirmation linking his departure directly to the protests, the timing has drawn attention, as Blinkit navigates operational challenges and public scrutiny.
The company has not yet announced an interim or permanent replacement for the CFO role.
What This Means for Blinkit
The departure of a CFO during a period of operational pressure could pose short-term challenges for Blinkit, particularly as the company continues to scale its quick-commerce operations across India.
However, with oversight from Eternal’s senior finance leadership, including CFO Akshant Goyal, the company is expected to maintain continuity while it searches for a successor.
Blinkit remains a key growth driver within Eternal’s portfolio, and leadership stability will be closely watched by investors and industry observers in the coming months.
Looking Ahead
As quick-commerce competition intensifies, Blinkit’s ability to manage costs, maintain delivery partner relations, and strengthen internal leadership will be critical.
Kapooria’s exit adds another layer of transition for the company, even as it works to address workforce concerns and sustain rapid growth.
Further clarity is expected once Blinkit or Eternal issues an official statement on the leadership change and next steps.
