Tata Mutual Fund Raises Stake in CarTrade Tech After Strong Quarterly Results

Tata Mutual Fund has increased its ownership in CarTrade Tech Limited, crossing the key 5% shareholding mark. The move comes after the fund made additional purchases in the open market and shortly after CarTrade Tech reported improved financial performance for the December quarter.

According to regulatory disclosures, Tata Mutual Fund, along with persons acting in concert, crossed the 5% threshold following secondary market transactions carried out on January 28, 2026.

Details of the Share Purchase

The increase in stake was the result of fresh equity purchases made through the open market.

Shares Acquired

Tata Asset Management Company, acting on behalf of its mutual fund schemes, acquired 90,522 equity shares of CarTrade Tech that carry voting rights.

New Shareholding Level

Following the acquisition, the combined holding of Tata Mutual Fund and persons acting in concert rose to 23,99,962 equity shares. This represents 5.0163% of CarTrade Tech’s total shareholding.

Before this transaction, Tata Mutual Fund and its associated entities held 23,09,440 shares, or a 4.8271% stake in the company.

Crossing the 5% mark is considered significant in market disclosures, as it signals a meaningful institutional interest in a listed company.

Which Tata Mutual Fund Schemes Bought the Shares

The stake increase was not limited to a single scheme. The purchases were made across multiple Tata Mutual Fund schemes, reflecting broader conviction in CarTrade Tech’s business.

Participating Schemes

The schemes involved in the transaction included:

  • Tata Balanced Advantage Fund
  • Tata Digital India Fund
  • Tata India Consumer Fund
  • Tata Small Cap Fund
  • Tata Value Fund

All purchases were executed through secondary market transactions, with no preferential allotment or primary issuance involved.

Why the Stake Increase Matters

Institutional investors crossing ownership thresholds often attract attention because such moves can reflect confidence in a company’s long-term outlook.

Strong Signal from a Large Fund House

Tata Mutual Fund is one of India’s well-known asset managers. An increase in its stake suggests a positive view on CarTrade Tech’s fundamentals, growth prospects, or valuation.

While mutual funds regularly adjust portfolios, crossing the 5% mark indicates a more strategic level of ownership rather than routine trading activity.

CarTrade Tech’s Recent Financial Performance

The stake increase comes soon after CarTrade Tech reported a strong set of numbers for the December quarter of FY26.

Revenue Growth

CarTrade Tech posted revenue of Rs 210 crore in Q3 FY26. This marks a significant increase from Rs 176 crore recorded in the same quarter last year.

The revenue growth reflects improved business traction across its digital automotive platforms.

Profitability Improves

The company also reported a healthy rise in profitability. Net profit for the quarter stood at Rs 61.5 crore in Q3 FY26.

Stronger margins and higher profits have helped improve investor sentiment around the company.

About CarTrade Tech

CarTrade Tech operates digital platforms focused on the automotive ecosystem. Its offerings span online auto classifieds, auctions, and transaction platforms that connect buyers, sellers, dealers, and financial institutions.

Over the years, the company has worked on improving operational efficiency and expanding its digital reach, which appears to be reflected in its recent financial performance.

Market Reaction and Investor Sentiment

Stake increases by institutional investors are often closely watched by the market. While short-term price movements depend on broader market conditions, such disclosures can reinforce confidence among other investors.

The combination of improving financial results and increased institutional ownership may strengthen CarTrade Tech’s positioning in the eyes of long-term investors.

What This Could Mean Going Forward

Tata Mutual Fund’s increased exposure to CarTrade Tech suggests belief in the company’s ability to sustain growth and profitability.

As CarTrade Tech continues to scale its platforms and optimize costs, institutional interest may continue to grow, especially if earnings momentum remains strong.

For now, crossing the 5% ownership threshold marks an important milestone in Tata Mutual Fund’s investment in the company and highlights renewed confidence in CarTrade Tech’s business trajectory.
